meaning of the chimes?

Anybody have any theories on what the chimes symbolize in the film? Would love to hear them.

The wind rising in the upcoming storm but ignoring their warning and plunging ahead anyway. Also a plot device to get Ned Racine over to the Walker Mansion for some preliminary muff diving. ☔💏

I liked the scene where Ned is off to put his murder machinations in motion and he sees a clown driving past in a car - I love his stare, you can see him processing that he realizes he may be the clown, that its a visual metaphor for what he is doing.

I love how Ned in general has this really open expression, very easy to read and yet he lies well too, without seeming like a bad guy. I thought William in general was just fantastic.

Couldn't agree more, toasty. Hurt is absolutely wonderful in this movie--it's my favorite WH role ever.
