Seemed clear to me. In the end, it clearly displayed she was everything Edmund was....all about money and she was "willing to do what was necessary, whatever was necessary" and...all her high school friends knew that from the line in the annual. He would have never married her.

maybe she murdered her parents/siblings.

Did Matty actually say "crimes"? I think she said things; I suspect they were sexual in nature. Robbing a convenience store might not bother Walker; pulling several trains probably would.

reply

I thought she said something about drugs/cocaine

reply

She did mention drugs/cocaine, but you would have to think that prostitution had to be involved to support their addiction. She had said that it was really bad until Edmund comes to her rescue and gets her clean. There were things that seemed she did not want to admit to.

Judging by the 5 deletes in a row- it seems people out there have quite a vivid imagination of what these awful acts could have been...
Matty clearly says she was into "speed". Speed to me seems a bit different from cocaine. That would imply sex/prostitution, etc. Especially at that time (early 80's) the word "cocaine" would have meant upper class to a certain extent. Even today the word speed is code for methamphetamines or crystal meth.

Edmund didn't rescue her - another guy did, the guy Edmund calls, "the loser she was with"

reply

Seems pretty clear she was referring to a drug habit and most likely prostitution.

She went to a coal town in West Virginia and had sex with a miner.

This movie is fiction, so there is clue to Matty's past other that what was presented in the movie. And since nothing about her past was presented in the movie, any answer presented in this thread has no basis, whatsoever.
