The Last Seduction

Chinatown, sort of. Punk (ex) lawman gets in over his head with dangerous, sultry woman. All mood.

Think cynical thoughts.

I think Brian De Palma's films are sometimes similar, although they are way over-the-top.
I know De Palma takes so much from Hitchcock, but if you are a fan of Double Indemnity and Postman (both novels by James M. Cain), you can see these were also a big inlfuence. In particular, the female roles in De Palma films are a little "dirty", not much like the Hitchcock females, but more like the women in Double Indemnity and Postman.

Femme Fatale (2002) is almost perfect.

Ugh....Femme Fatale was average, and Last Seduction was ridiculous. Peter Bergs character was too dumb to be believable. He married a dude by accident?? Cmon.

reply

torr59, Why not suggest films you think are similar? ...And not just pick on other people's suggestions.
Cmon, have you nothing better to do?

Can you name other films like Body Heat?

and I still think Femme Fatale was great.

"The Killers", although because it's made in 1946, we can only imagine what "Kitty Collins" (Ava Gardner) does to "The Swede" (Burt Lancaster) to have him go to jail for her and then, ultimately die.

reply

Thats the point Savage-there are no movies in Body Heat's league. Last Seduction gets praised by critics, but is seriously, seriously flawed.

I love depalma. my favs are body double, blow out, dressed to kill, sisters, and phantom of the paradise

Ugh! I was hoping to find a movie I have been looking for.

I was just thinking about another movie very similar to this one.
I would almost swear it was the same people.
Those that know the film know the female was in a limo and there was Jazz music playing as she was being driven away (I think the song is Dave Brubecks Take 5). The woman had a piece of paper she burned as she was driving away, the only link to the man being cleared. I think the boyfriend was a doctor?

It's The Last Seduction

You could try PALMETTO (1998) starring Woody Harrelson and Elisabeth Shue. Thematically smiliar and I enjoyed it, but then I saw it long time back.

reply

Try Against All Odds. Good neo-noir.

Basic Instinct.

The Hot Spot with Jennifer Connelly.

U-Turn with Jennifer Lopez.

Although they are not true noir thrillers, "Bitter Moon" & "Before the devil knows you're dead" do have many of the same elements as "Body Heat".

The Apartment (1996)

reply

Black Widow. There's even a scene where the inheritance laws of Florida affect the plot, almost as a nod to Body Heat.
