About Matty's plot [spoilers]

So I suppose that, in order she could marry Edmund Walker, Mary Ann Simpson swapped identities with Matty Tyler so she could get rid of her drug-addiction past. But how would the real Matty Tyler ever agree with this deal, given the amount of money there was at stake? Can someone explain me what the original plan of the two women was, before M.A. Simpson double-crossed her partner?

In my opinion, the real Matty wasn't in on the scam. I believe she found out the real Mary Ann Simpson (Turner)was using her name, married a rich guy and threatened to spill the beans unless she got paid off. Remember the meeting at the gazebo? Turner handed her an envelope after their conversation with Ned. The real Matty was blackmailing her.
