Can someone confirm this scene too?

I saw "Bloody Birthday" ages ago and was hoping that someone who's seen the movie can confirm that the following takes place:

In the very last(?) scene in the movie, the corpses of all the people the children killed are seated around a long dining table. It's snowing very heavily outside. I remember one of the victims had an axe or something in his head and another had his eyes and mouth sewn shut. There's moldy food on the table and the kids are playing house or having a tea party with the corpses.

Many thanks!

You may be thinking of the movie "Mikey".

Rocky VI must happen! Sean Penn said so!

Looks like I'll be tracking down copies of "Bloody Birthday" AND "Mikey." The scene I described above has been bugging me for years, so many thanks to you both for putting this 18 year question to rest!

I think the movie you're looking for is "Devil Times Five". It's hard to track down a copy, but it has an ending just like you describe, with all the dead adults posed at a table and the kids having a tea party.

I googled "Devil Times Five" and from the screenshots I found, I think the scene I referred to above really is from this movie. Thank you so much! I'm going to try to track down a copy. I sort of remember the kid in the nun habit, but I don't remember anything else from this movie besides the ending I described above. It's strange how I had this ending mixed up with scenes from "Bloody Birthday." Man, I still can't believe my parents let me watch these slasher movies when I was a kid... I must have been 7 or 8 when I saw them!

Anyway, I'm relieved that this has finally been resolved. I had that creepy ending on my mind for years and I've posted about it on different movie-related message boards, but no one knew what I was talking about. Many thanks again for clearing this up for me!

Glad I was able to help. FYI, you can buy the DVD at this link, the quality isn't perfect but certainly watchable.

By the way, 2 other movies that have scenes with dead party members around a table are "Happy Birthday to Me" with Melissa Sue Anderson, and "Madhouse" directed by Ovidio G. Assonitis. They came out in 1981 as well.

Yeah, that was Devil Times Five. I have a tape of it from Ebay. Very creepy. I have all movies based on children who kill everybody. I have Daddy's Girl, Mikey, The Bad Seed, Bloody Birthday, Village of Damned, Children of the Damned, and ... what else?? I can't rememeber. LOL. I love horror movies though :)

How about The Pit?

reply

Yeah, I know that movie and will get one anytime.

I thought it was Happy Birthday to Me.

If you haven't yet, you should check out Who Can Kill A Child?.

Try "The Children", which troma put out on DVD.
It's about a school bus full of kids that goes through a toxic gas cloud, I'm sure you can put together the rest.

Also, don't forget "Beware! Children at Play".

I think we may be thinking of a different movie, but, does this "The Children" take place around Winter/Christmas time? If not, then it is different. I think it MIGHT have been 2009 when that movie came out...I recommend it.

I think 'The Children' took place in the early Fall. Filming was in the summer, I'm almost certain of that, but the setting is early Fall so that could be it as well.

As for Bloody Birthday, I've always held the view that the movie was originally cut so the Birthday party in the middle of the movie was supposed to go at the end, and the big reveal was the kids finally showing their true colors by poisoning the birthday cake and killing the entire party. I think I came across that by the way the scene was edited because it wouldn't be that hard to see the party members all throwing up their cake as being genuine and not just a reaction to someone mentioning the cake MIGHT be poisoned. Not to mention the movie after that seems very drawn out and a bit aimless until the last act kicks in. Then again, that was just a pet theory of mine. After all, why have a 'Bloody Birthday' when a birthday party isn't the focus of the last scene?

I know I'm probably WAY too late for this info to actually help anyone, but if you have Netflix, Devil Times Five is one of the many films you can watch on your PC.

(Haven't had a chance to see it though, there's so many awesome looking films I want to catch and so little time.)

I am almost positive that you are confused with another classic horror movie from the same year called "Happy Birthday to Me." Definately worth checking out even if I am wrong. The original tag line was "Six of the most bizarre murders you will ever see."

reply

I agree, what the OP is describing sounds exactly like the ending of "happy birthday to me"

What?! I live in the UK and have seen this movie on TV and have the region 2 DVD. The only end I've seen is where the boys are taken away by the police, and the girl and get's in to her mother's car and her mother drives her away. In the next scene the girl and her mother are at a gas station and it is revealed that the girl has killed the mechanic.

So, is Bloody Birthday different in the UK? Because in the US trailer there is a long dinning table with a cake. That made me suspicious.

Please help.
