So bad it's good

I've been catching this show here and there the past month or so on ITV4, and it's so hilariously bad it's unreal. In that time I've seen plots involving: dwarves, a criminal dressed up as a woman, an alien spaceship, The Occult, and a wheelchair chase (car chasing a wheelchair on the road), among many other whacky plotlines. The script is awful, the acting is lousy; seriously they must do the majority of shots in one take as I've never seen people run and punch so unconvincingly. And of course there's something very ironic about an actor playing a stuntman who quite clearly isn't doing his own stunts.

Is this show what inspired Police Squad? They were made around the same time.
