Heather Locklears voice (season 2)

Heather Locklears Just showed up (s2 e5 I think) and her voice sounds nothing like her! Does it start sounding liked it does now (or even on melrose) on the show ever?

reply

Yes, after her first season, her voice wasn't quite as high. She was fired after her first season, but then hired by Spelling the next season for T.J. Hooker. In Dynasty's season 3, Sammy Jo comes back and Spelling stated that they actually thought of recasting with a new actress because of Locklear's voice, but decided against. Her character proved very popular. She would go on to recur/guest star on Dynasty for several seasons while simultaneously starring on TJ Hooker. When TJ Hooker ended on ABC, she joined Dynasty full-time and stayed until the end of the series.

Whaaat? I'm so glad they didn't!

I know they end up recasting the Carrington children but ugh.

Was she really "fired"? I thought they just wrote her out and wanted the actress for a different series?

reply

Yes, she was fired from Dynasty. Aaron Spelling liked her enough to give her another shot the following season on his new police series, T.J. Hooker. And, yes, Aaron said they considered recasting Sammy Jo when she was brought back in season 3 for 3 episodes (as it was originally supposed to be a guest role).

"Fired" sounds like she wasn't doing her job well. Actually, I have read different versions of why she was let go after Season One. One version is that she was only hired for a 12 or 13 episode stint in the first place. Another version is that since Al Corly was let go, they couldn't very well keep his TV-wife on the show, since their storylines were linked together. So I don't think she was fired due to a lack of acting ability.

There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.

Yes, her contract was only for 13 episodes. The show decided not to renew her contract so she was let go/fired. It's simple as that.

reply

Yeah, that's not being fired, it's being let go. After seeing her in that blue bikini in "The Gun", how could they have let her go. I'm still jerking off to that scene all these years later. I remember recording the show on a vcr years ago just to have that scene on tape. Now I have it on DVD. Thank You Heather!

She had some training (as did Sammy Jo in her absence) and also had her adenoids out.
