bens congrats. we may disagree on season 7 but u proved u are a real dynasty fan by humiliating seasons 1 and 9 like they deserve to be. in fact we agree in almost all seasons but season 7 and 3.
I'm sure more or less 90% of dynasty fans would vote that way rejecting seasons 1 and 9 and praise the rest.
I recommend you to see THE COLBYS as it's really a kind of dynasty continuation especially with jeff and fallon in it.
Season 1 was slow and finding its way. It desperately needed more drama and Joan Collins brought it! I did love Fallon in season 1 they should have kept her bitchy and slutty in the later seasons lol.
Season 2 was the ultimate classic season. The catfights were shocking and real because we'd never seen them before. Eventually they grew choreographed and slapstick.
Seasons 3-5 were good as well. Loved Catherine Oxenberg and say what you will about the Moldavian Massacre but it is something everyone remembers!!! Also Rock Hudson and the AIDS scandal and the clothing lines and merchandizing all seemed to make Dynasty at is most buzz worthy. I think by season 5 it reached the top of the mountain and it was teetering at the top.
Season 6 is when it teetered right off the edge. The Massacre resolution was a let down and The Krystle/Rita half of the season was truly ridiculous and lost much credibility and whatever reality it had left. The second half of the season was truly fantastic with Alexis going full tilt revenge mode with Ben. The show overdosed on the glitz and outrageousness this season and the introduction of and focus on the Colby's and the split feel of the season prevented it from being a solid cohesive season. Oh and farewell to Claudia...sad way to go out.
Season 7 felt like another split season. Hated Amanda's replacement. Bringing back Michael was dumb, hated the Fallmonts, hated the Krystina heart transplant story and hated how everyone was made too nice by the end. Sammy Jo turning good. Alexis just dropping her revenge because she was scared of jail and The Caress character just being dropped. Overall a blah hard to watch season.
Season 8 seemed the first cohesive season in a long time with a beginning middle and end and even though it wasn't the greatest it seemed an improvement over last season. It was pretty much a paint by the numbers season but I feel was done well. Loved Leslie turning into the company whore. Also having all the Carringtons past coming back to haunt them was a nice touch.
Season 9 was hard as you knew it was the end. There was a cheapness about the season in regards to sets and costumes. It was a far cry from the opulence of seasons 5-6. The glitz was gone and Alexis only appeared in every other episode as a cost saving strategy. Cost Saving and Dynasty do not go together. Krystle leaving was also another nail in the coffin, but by now the Krystle character was so watered down and saccharine from what she was in seasons 1-2 that I don't blame Linda Evans for wanting out. Fallon was great this season returning to her fun ways. Sable was a fantastic addition and saved the season for me. The finale was great but I just wish there was a season 10 to resolve the cliff hangers and wrap up the show.
The reunion was HORRIFIC!
The Colbys was ok but unnessasary...and then the aliens came! Wtf!

While I'm sure budget issues played a part in "de-glitzing" the show, I also think it was a sign that the 90s was around the corner and the Reagan era was coming to an end. Look at Aaron Spelling's next major prime time soap project - Beverly Hills, 90210, which was centered around the humble and "middle class" Walshes (though the reality was of course that they were better off than most).

The Season 9 sets were the same as they'd had before (except for that new plywood terrace, which was bad). And Joan and Linda and Stephanie were still dressed to the nines even though the supporting actresses were "designer casual".
This whole thing about "cheapness" or "tackiness" with Season 9 is just one of those apocryphal assertions that gets repeated over time like Bigfoot.
And Jesus knows the scripts were better. Linda left early when her contract was up, and Joan did two out of three episodes, but the actresses and their characters were better served by the writing. And there was also Stephanie Beacham!

Thank you Prometheus for proving HOW U ARE NOT A DYNASTY FAN but u post here like a maniac as u hated all seasons but 3 but u still kept watching the show.
u are now officially exposed to the public and in case u missed it......WE ARE TALIING ABOUT A SOAP NOT A GODFATHER SERIES SO U SHOULD EXPECT THE TURN OF DIRECTION THE SENARIO WENT AFTER SEASON 2..........BUT CAN A PSYCKO UNDERSTAND THOSE DETAILS ?
How can someone claim to be a Dynasty fan, and yet hate MOST of the seasons, just when Dynasty was at the top of its game? I mean, what do people remember most about Dynasty (besides the catfights and caviar)? The Moldavian Massacre, of course!! Alexis taking over the mansion after that splendid trial!! The guessing game of which of Alexis's enemies set fire to the cabin!! These are the parts people remember about Dynasty, and these scenes MADE Dynasty! These are the reasons those seasons were numbers 1, 3, 5 and 7 in the ratings while Season 1 was number 40 and Season 9 was number 57. Please Prometheus, post on some other Board of a show that you are really a fan of.

Between Season 6 and Season 8, DYNASTY went into one of the fastest two-year crashes on record for a former #1 show. And for that reason, ABC moved the show to a dead-end Thursday night timeslot for Season 9 they knew it couldn't survive, the same slot that had killed THE COLBYS and was now intended to kill DYNASTY. In fact, ABC told the producers, unofficially, that it would be the last year of the series before they started shooting it.
Please Prometheus, post on some other Board of a show that you are really a fan of.
Why? These board are for discussion, not for fawning fans who just want their favorite movies and TV shows complimented 24/7.
Prometheus haven't u had enough beating yet ? I mean u are the minority here. most fans know and love dynasty when it was the top 5 show between seasons 3-7. those seasons ARE DYNASTY not boring season 1....not the dismal season 9 but u keep coming here insulting ALL FANS WITH YOUR BULL.
NOW DUDE.....WHY U DO THAT ? DON'T U HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE AND U KEEP TROLLING LIKE THAT ?
How bout u tell me what is your fav show and I will go there and beep you saying how bad is this show....etc.....WILL U LIKE IT ?
I Mean....no matter what u say here u will never change our minds about the seasons u hate.....so why u keep it up ?
BENS IS RIGHT...............JUST QUIT ALREADY.......I BEAT YOU....I SAID I WILL EXPOSE YOU AND I DID.....NOW PEOPLE IN THIS BOARD KNOW WHAT U ARE.
EVEN PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE MUCH SEASON 7 LIKE I DO THEY SAID....IT'S STILL DYNASTY.............DYNASTY IS SOAP U SHOULD EXPECT THE WRITING TO GO THE WAY IT DID.
And I told you you are wrong about the ratings decline in the later seasons and I posted FACTS SO IT'S OVER FOR YOU.
Yes....after season 5 the show declined but not as fast as u think and it was not until season 9 that it really COLLAPSED. IT COLLAPSED IN SEASON 9 NOT BEFORE SO U WRONG...................HERE ARE THE FACTS SO READ AND WEEP.
SEASON 5 // NO 1 with 25 rating.
season 6 was just outside the top 5 at no 6 tied with dallas with dallas prevailing by a very few points at no 6. dynasty scored almost a 22 rating in season 6.
Season 7 fell out of the top 10 but it was still comfortably in the top 25 scoring a still huge 18 ratings.
Even season 8 held a respectable 15 rating and was just outside the top 30 at no 33.
SO TROLL....WHEN SEASON 2 CLIMBED AT NO 19 IN 1982 ALL FUTURE SEASONS UNTIL SEASON 8 WERE IN TOP 30 WITH SEASON 8 TO BE AT NO 33 UNTIL SEASON 9 ARRIVED.
YOUR FAV SEASON FLOPED AT NO 57 WHICH MEANS IT WAS THE WORST....EVEN SEASON 1 WAS AT NO 40 BETTER THAN SEASON 9. EVEN SEASON 1 OF THE COLBYS WAS AT NO 35 IN 1986 BETTER THAN DYNASTYS SEASON 9 AND 1.
GET IT TO YOUR TROLLING HEAD.......SEASONS 1 AND 9 WERE THE WORST AND NUMBERS HUMILATED YOU. GOT IT ?
NOW GET LOST............WE HAD ENOUGH WITH TROLLS
PS.
Still u never answered why u kept watching after u were disappointed with season 3 and 4. you knew the direction the show went on but u kept watching.
U EXPOSED TROLL.........BUY BUY TROLL
"Another one for the fire".....from which LIVING DEAD movie fab"" ?
bens he is a troll.....and now he is exposed he is beaten so let him post more if he wants he only humiliate himself more.
like u said there is a reason dynasty flopped ONLY in seasons 1 and 9.
even season 8 and the reunion were not flops.
even the colbys season 1 was not a flop.
FLOPS WERE ONLY DYNASTY SEASON 1, 9 AND THE COLBYS SEASON 2 WHICH WAS NO 72 IN 1987 THE ONLY DYNASTY RELATED SEASON TO FLOP BIGGER THAN SEASON 9.
That Prometheus dude is a joke. he disliked season 5 which was the most popular amongst the fans and no 1 in America that year.
I believe that guy gets mad when he thinks dynasty season 5 was NO 1 in America while his fav seasons FLOPED BIG TIME that's why he is here to spread poison and now it's time to pay the price.
Time to face FACTS AND NUMBERS.
BEST RATED DYNASTY SEASONS ARE THE ONE HE HATES.
WORST RATED DYNASTY SEASONS ARE THE ONES HE LOVES.
BEST SELLING DVD SEASONS ARE AGAIN THE ONES HE HATES.
SEASON 9 DVD SALES FLOPED AT AMAZON.
HOW IS THAT IS SO GOOD SEASON 9......NO ONE WANT TO OWN IT ?
OFFICIAL AMAZON NUMBERS SAY....SEASON 9 SOLD FEWER COPIES THAN ALL THE REST OF THE DYNASTY SEASONS.
NOW PROMETHEUS ARE U BEGINNING TO FEEL LIKE HOW IT HURTS WHEN U ARE TROLLING ?
I agree that season 9 was enjoyable. The whole Riger Grimes story was intriguing and it was nice to have Sable back and Naughty Fallon. It just seems that the budget restraints were starting to show. Not so much a cheapness or tackiness, but an overall downgrade in budget. It seemed like it was shedding cast members, which in a way was probably good because Dynasty could be overpopulated at times. But the days of big name guest stars and those lavish parties covered in glitz and those head to toe glittery dresses of previous seasons like season 6 seemed to be gone. Also the action seemed more relegated to the mansion and Carlton. So just in comparison to when Dynasty was overdosing on the glitz, season 8 and 9 seemed to be the withdrawal after the OD. Again not a tackiness but it seemed to be scaled way way back. But season 9 was good it just felt like you knew the 90s were coming and it's days were numbered. But season 9 had some of the best acting especially from Emma Samms and at least a plot that made sense.
At least u rated season 6 better than season 9.....that's something.
As for your question what the reunion was.....it was an extra 4 episodes which gave us A PROPER ENDING after the disgusting end of season 9 which left unresolved the stories with a beep cliffhanger and THANK GOD WE HAD THE REUNION AND SO TO REMEMBER THE FINAL SCENE IN THE DYNASTY SHLOW WAS BNOT BLAKE LAY ON THE FLOOR WOUNDED BUT BLAKE DANCING WITH KRYSTLE AND THE REUNION OF THE FAMILY HAPPILY EVER AFTER.
THAT IS WHAT THE REUNION MEANS DEAR PARANOJA.
No matter if it was not so good at least it finished the series.
U would rather have a cliffhanger tan a clear ending ?
forget about reunion if it was bad or not.
the existence of reunion was caused by the beep ending of season 9.
if season 9 had a proper ending then we wouldn't have a reunion.
got it ?
As I recall back in 89 the remaining dynasty fans who still watched the show WERE ENRAGED BY THE WAY SEASON 9 ENDED THE SERIES cause u should know that a great cliffhanger....is great when u know there will be a next season but when u knew dynasty would be canselled after season 9 and u don't give a proper ending to the fans THEN THAT'S A HUGE MISTAKE.
So tell me paranoja.....when u watch a movie // series don't u wanna know how it ends when it ends ?
that's what the reunion did. IT ENDED THE SERIES.
I also found a lot of flaws in the reunion as the real adam was not there as also the real steven was not there (al Corley had that surgery in season 2 which changed his face so according to the scenario al was not steven since season 2 but jack was). Also miles Colby was uninteresting by that time and more........but the reunion had also good things.
1) THE CONSORTIUM STORY WAS GREAT AS JEREMY VAN DORN WAS.
2) JEFF AND FALLON'S REUNION WAS A PLUS AND NOSTALGIC.
3) WATCHING AL CORLEY AFTER SO MANY YEARS WAS NOSTALGIC (No matter if they beeped with the scenario in season 2 with steven's surgery)
4) The explanation as to what happened to the unresolved cliffhanger at season 9 telling us what happened to dex, alexis and blake....etc....was great.
5) THE ENDING.....FINALLY WE GOT AN ENDING AFTER 10 LONG YEARS.....Now I think most of the fans want to see an ending when they watch a series for somany years and not a cliffhanger and the reunion was made EXACTLY CAUSE THE FANS REVOLTED AND WANTED AN ENDING so paranoja if u did not wanted an ending that's your right but most fans wanted an ending and thank god we got one of the best................BLAKE AND KRYSTLE DANCING TOGETHER LIKE THEY SHOULD BE.
u did not got a *beep* season cause u did not got another season after season 9 to begin with. what u got is 4 episodes to wrap up the unresolved stories from season 9.
now I think u are the only one who don't want to see an ending when a series is over.
Yes, even though the ABC executives told the DYNASTY producers that Season 9 would be the last year before they even started filming it (and then moved the dying show to a dead end timeslot no show could survive) they equivocated on the cancellation at the last minute, not delivering the official pinkslip until after Joan Collins did a TVGUIDE cover story saying she was leaving the show (although if you read the fine print in the middle of that article, she says she'd do some episodes in Season 10 if they asked her).
Realizing you can't do DYNASTY without Alexis, they then cancelled the show. But by this time, they'd already shot a cliffhanger.
If there had been a Season 10, the cliffhanger of Blake shot on the steps and Alexis crashing thru the mezzanine balcony would have been one of the best they ever did. But it was indeed a bad way to end to the show overall, so the producers went to ABC and asked them to allow DYNASTY to do a finale episode but the network used the 'good money after bad' excuse and refused.
That's why we wound up with the dreadful 1991 Reunion more than two years later: the producers and network were not just trying to give the series a finale but they were also looking to reboot DYNASTY for the '90s. The problem is that they brought back the same writers who'd ruined the show from the middle of the series, and despite 2 1/2 years to write the REUNION, it still wasn't any good.
Realizing that it was pretty crappy, ABC scrapped any plans to revive the series before the REUNION had even aired.
Ultimately, yes, as flawed as the cliffhanger ending was, better to have left it there than give us that awful and pointless reunion (although it wasn't any worse than Season 7 and 8).
Well, I disagree. Although I wasn't that crazy about the Reunion, it was better than no conclusion at all. Yes, it was unrealistic and over-the-top. But those were Dynasty's trademarks. Wasn't the famous Moldavian Massacre also over-the-top? Yes, the Reunion addressed the cliffhangers only casually. But it was better than not addressing them at all. Yes, Sammy Jo reverted back to the tramp of Season 2. But that was when Dynasty was most popular. OK, we didn't have Gordon Thompson. But it made Kirby getting engaged to her rapist less horrific. What DID we get? We got the bitchiness. We got the catfights and dogfights. We got back the idealistic, gay, and true-to-character Steven from Seasons 1 and 2. We got 48 costumes between Alexis and Krystle. And we got Blake and Krystle dancing together, and living happily-ever-after. Better than nothing, IMO.
There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
Season 1 had no Alexis and Season 9 had less Alexis and that equals it not really being Dynasty.. ps I'm also tired of getting my fun opinions/silly recollections of trashy soaps "critiqued" by the creme de la creme of Dynasty connoisseur know it alls.. yawn keep the drama and queenery for the actual show its way more interesting
I don't know how someone can claim to be a fan of Dynasty, yet dislike the vast majority of the seasons, which also happen to be the highest-rated ones. It makes no sense. If I don't like a show, I would stop watching it after awhile. I also would never visit that show's message board or continuously comment there.
There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
Yes basically I love the show except in its weaker moments.. but even then it was better than a lot of other stuff!! Big fan and I try not to take it too seriously because.. it's Dynasty ;)
