Availability in the US?

Hello,

I'm a Brit living in USA, but I do have some very fond memories of this show from the early 80's.

I saw that this show is now available on DVD in Britain (Region 2) - or at least the first series is, at time of this writing.

Does anyone have any clue as to whether this show will be available on DVD in USA (Region 1)? If so, when?

I would also like to add my vote to getting this show on DVD (R1). I now live in Canada but worked in Jersey for 3 months in the early 80s while this show was being filmed. One of my friends was asked to be "background colour" in one episode - too bad I was at work that day or I would have had my 2 minutes of TV-fame... Anyway, this show always brought back good memories for me and I would like to see it commercially available.

The popularity of Midsomer Murders has stoked interest in John Nettles, the actor and lead in both this and Bergerac. I hope the parties who are able to bring this older British tv series (Bergerac) to the U.S. in the NTSC format will do so, sooner rather than later. With minor promotion it could be a big money maker.

Cheerio !

I became a fan many years ago when public television in New Jersey carried it. Great show, very atmospheric, and not all the loose ends tied up every week. Very much like life, in that respect.

Dear hmahendra,

I cannot agree more. I second the motion. I have a few episodes I taped off PBS many years ago, but I would love to see how much I would have to pay for the whole thing.

Sincerely,

All foreigners need to do is buy a multi-region DVD player - very cheap, then order DVDs from Amazon.co.uk or anywhere in fact.

Really easy and simple.

Whilst I agree that this is a good option for collectors, many of us would prefer to rent the series instead of buy. As such, I and many others are still anxiously waiting word of when the DVDs will be released in the US.

I'm even cheaper- I prefer to get dvd's out of the public library! For that they REALLY have to come out in Canada or the U.S. (to be bought by a U.S. library).

Maybe there is enough familiarity in Canada with Bergerac or Public Eye for them to come out there?

reply

I don't mind renting it or even buying it if I can get suggestions about which episode is best for my first purchase. I just really like John Nettles, and would really like to see his earlier work, or any of his work for that matter. I lurk with baited breath to see if one of you has found DVDs of this or any other of Mr. Nettles work. Peace out!
