murder in midsommer: sequel to Bergerac?

or...rather...

even if the names are changed...should one look at the murder in midsommer as the
"Bergerac 20 years later" ?

There are parallels, but Barnaby has a different, less troubled personality to Bergerac. Coincidentally (?) John Nettles' personal life appears to have taken a happy turn between the two series.

Also, Midsomer and its inhabitants has a quite different appeal to Jersey.

Personally, I'd like to see a return series of Bergerac, which sums up proceedings in the meantime (Jim will be retired, but did he get the job of running a Bureau des Etrangers for all the Channel Islands, for example?). It appeared from the recent 'Cult of Bergerac' programme that many of the old cast regulars would be up for it.

I've been watching the (almost) complete re-runs on the Drama channel, and the cross-overs are wonderful to spot....

The one episode they didn't show was The Fall - in which the villain's name was Barnaby.

And in "My name's Sgt Bergerac", featuring Tony Robinson as a useless private detective (with a very dodgy accent), the DCI from the mainland Drug Squad was Barry Jackson! Looked just the same as he did in Midsomer.
