Glad you're interested in the car! According to John Nettles in his book "Bergerac's Jersey" the vehicle in question IS a Triumph Roadster (a forerunner of the TR-6 and TR-7). It was actually a 1947 model, so its post-war, and two were actually used in the whole of the series.
The first was a right old clunker and was mechanically unreliable. It sounded terrible and the BBC had to resort to using a second soundtrack to give the car the air of coolness it needed. It also had a nasty habit of not stopping when it was supposed to, something to do with a faulty push-rod system and accidents were only narrowly avoided.
The second was much more sound and for many years could be seen as an exhibit at Jersey Goldsmiths next to a rather unimpressive cardboard cut-out of Bergerac himself. It was later sold off to a private collector.
an unreliable Triumph car...who could possibly believe that ?

shareApparently you don't recognise your dream-car. Be careful you don't get sold a Triumph Roadster instead!
