Do you think the best episodes were the ones with Phillipa Vale?

I always liked the episodes with Phillipa Vale (Liza Goddard) as I liked the way she kept on winding him up and flirting with Jim. Apparently there were only 6 episodes with Phillipa in them. She and Jim should have ended up together at the end - I know it would have been unlikely but she was the best. His French girlfriend in the last series was boring.

I agree, they should have ended up together although the ending of Old Acquainance was a good round up for their relatioship.

Was she the "Ice Maiden". The cool nerved theif who the Jersey police were too slow footed to catch? To be honest, I didn't like her at all.

I just agree with OrchestraOnTheHalfShell.

Phillipa Gale was HORNY.

I am a Bergerac fan and watch most nights to the episodes on UKGold tv.
They have not yet shown any episodes with Phillipa in yet but I am watching out for them.

Which episode was it again that he finally ended up with her, I think it was in a wine cellar? I used to be a huge fan of the show, but it's been so many years that I've seen it, that that's one of the few eps I actually can remember. Just found out it's available on dvd, will certainly go watch it again.

reply

Absolutely - she makes the series light up. I was hooked the first time I saw her in an episode and just spent today finding out who she is.

UK Drama is showing the series at the moment. They have shown all the Philipa episodes several times (often back-to-back). She's great fun, though it's rather implausible that she's able to get to Jersey time and again, and then get away again. She and Jim did cop off in a wine cellar.

I am watching a PHILLIPA VALE episode on UK tv drama right now.
I have seen them all years ago but can't remember what actually happens between Jim and her.
Did they have a fling? I would be grateful if someone reminded me of what happened.

I am always surprised that I find Lisa Goddard sexy.

Before I watched any of those episodes I thought that the concept of the sexy thief with the heart of gold sounded really pathetic, but to the credit of the actors and production crew they pulled it off very well.
I've just watched 'Return of the Ice Maiden' - what a cracking episode. So good that I am prepared to suspend disbelief to the extent that when Jim is heading for an encounter with armed criminals, singlehanded apart from a bent copper who he is confronting on the drive, I'm thinking 'get some back-up for goodness sake!', when even a smidgen of my usual cynicism would tell me that Jim is going to handle them all, no probs!

I'm sorry folks, I agree with Charles_Calthrop. I regard the Ice Maiden episodes as some of the WORST of the series. Liza Goddard is an awful actress, not very pretty (all teeth and curls) and I'm afraid I really didn't see any of the alleged "chemistry" between her and Jim.

James

Liza Goddard "awful actress" and "not very pretty"? I'm lost for words except to observe that opinions and tastes must vary wildly...

reply

yes, i loved her character and wished she and Jim could have made a go of it. she was much more fun than any of his other women.

Been watching reruns of the whole series for a while, and i agree that the Vale episodes are among the best. Jim has had a string of girlfriends, most of them hot. His first french girlfriend was gorgeous, his x-wife wasn't bad either and he had a short fling with some business woman who was pretty cool too. I never figured what he saw in Susan though. Besides having some very blue eyes, she spent most of the time looking unhappy and clearly never gave it any thought that dating a cop might not be that easy. Phillipa on the other hand was a lot of fun, and while she may not have been a classic beauty (all teeth and curls like somebody mentioned), she certainly made up for it with a lot of charm. He should have stuck with her.
