funniest dialogue

after just watching this movie again the funniest line of dialogue to me is when the scout master says to the scouts...

"Now boys, men, without leaving this trail i want you to pick up a rock or a branch and bring it home to mom and dad as a momento of our trip. No rattle snakes though, because rattle snakes carry germs."

rattle snakes carry GERMS?!?! this has got to be one of the stupidest, funniest lines in the movie!

reply

I think Larry Storch's character's purpose in saying that was to not scare the cub scouts by saying snakes bite. Yeah, but a dumb line as most (halfway smart) kids know snakes do bite!

When the scout-leader is talking about the hollowed ground the troop is on, and starts talking about the great Guapo tribe, one of the pack asks if they killed Custor.

"No. No, the Guapo were famous for, raising beans. They were a bean... raising... tribe."

Or right after when he sees the camper van and tries to get help, on account of being lost and his compass not working.

"I've got some cub-scouts down the way, and my blisters are killing me."

Actually, the "compass not working"scene was supposed to indicate
that something alien was in the area.I thought that scene was meant
to be creepy and not meant to be campy. The director already mentioned
this on the DVD audio commentary.

reply

Indeed, but I was commenting on the dialogue, not the compass. Keep up!!

On my Black Widow DVD copy from 2004, you can see a plastic tube or stick cranking the compass every which way for the effect, but this part is cropped for the 2014 Scream Factory DVD/Blu-Ray two disc set.

"The sport is in the trackin' an' the huntin'..."

I like the part where the female lead points to a shack and says, "What's that?"

reply

Yes, a man warns them it's dangerous to go to the lake area, her friends are missing, she falls into a pit... so why not take a look in the lonelySHACK!

"Slip forward and break out the heavy-weather hook!"

reply

Ha! Good point, that'd be a good time to turn around.
