The Edsel

did anyone notice that at the beginning of the movie as the camera pans downfrom the hanging edsel you can see thru the front grille that is has no engine?

reply

The Edsel on the pole was a 1959 with no engine, the Edsel that was driven and blown up was a 1958.The Edsel in the picture (back in the day) was a 1958.

Actually, if you stop-frame it, the 1959 Edsel is painted to look like a 1958 when it crashes into the power station. Basically, whenever you see a running Edsel in the film, it's a 1958. When you see it trashed or on a pole, it's a 1959.

See Edsel.com/pages/edslfilm.htm for more.

Plus they used two different '58s - the car hanging from the tow truck in closeups is a four-door hardtop with a 1964 inspection sticker in the windshield and a copper and white interior; the one driving through the yard is a four-door pillared sedan with no inspection sticker and a green interior.
