ANCHORMAN rips off USED CARS...
The battle of the anchormen scene in ANCHORMAN is grossly ripped from the BEN-HUR scene in USED CARS. Apatow sucks.

shareWhat does Apatow have to do with Anchorman?
shareHe executive produced it, and aside from THE 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN, his movies are lame and aren't funny.
shareLOTS of people like Apatows movies. I don't think you can call them unfunny, because clearly they make people laugh. However, I'm not terribly surprised that some people don't laugh at them. My dad watched Anchorman, after hearing his kids rave about its randomness. He thought it was going to be like Airplane! - a movie he absolutely loved - but in the end he was disappointed.
The thing is, Anchorman - and Apatow's movies in general - is a different style of comedy that what has been employed in the past. It gets its laughs from randomness, vulgarity, and absurdity. Some older comedies have employed some of these, but I don't think they were nearly as common as they are now. It's just a generational gap, really. Comedies now aren't the same as comedies decades ago. And, no offense intended, it's a bit ridiculous to say that one style of comedy is inherently "better" than another or that one isn't funny. If you're a member of the older generation - or have been convinced by the older generation that everything from their days was indeed better - I'm not surprised you don't like Apatow. You're not really expected to. It'd be nice if you were a bit more open-minded, but it's not expected of you to like it, you certainly have the right to dislike something.
But don't call it garbage. Those statements imply that people that like it have bad taste, when really they're just participating in their population, their demographic - much as I'm sure you did when you were young.
I didn't know that. But still, he didn't write it or direct it, so I don't know if he should be blamed.
shareI saw it more as a loving rip-off of The Warriors by way of Gangs of New York.
shareOften when movies "rip-off" scenes they are meant to remind the viewer of the older film. It is not a rip it is an allusion, does the simpsons "rip-off" it's content? Didn't see the connection but if it is there and intentional it is not a rip off it is more a homage.
