...in the history of dvd. It's the only commentary I can think of that's as good as the movie itself. It's always a tough choice to leave it off whenever I watch the dvd.
End of.
What I call a dream involves Diana Dors and a bottle of chip oil.
Kurt Russell's commentary tracks are always a good time. Always.
Here's a test:
Turn on the commentary for this film and see how long it takes for you to smile, chuckle or laugh. I'll save you the trouble -- it'll happen immediately, because the first thing you hear is that awesome full-throated Russell laugh, which is impossibly infectious. I don't even know what exactly he's laughing at, but I laugh right along with him.
People talk about "star power", and how "likable" certain actors are...for my money, I can't think of another actor in history who would be more fun to have a beer with. (Possibly Mitchum or Marvin...but living?)
Anyway, I think that's why people are so quick to say that Used Cars is a victory for Russell. Sure, there are very talented people around him, but without his crackerjack comic timing, enthusiasm and his ability to be (yes) likable-despite-being-morally-compromised, I'm not sure it'd work quite so well. Even The Great Bill Murray would've been hard-pressed to improve this film. He'd have the crassness, but the puppy dog earnestness? Simultaneously?
Incidentally, Russell's commentaries on Big Trouble in Little China and The Thing are also terrific.
Have you seen The Art of the Steal? There's a scene between Kurt and Jay Baruchel that they show at the end as an out take...Jay adlibs a line that Kurt finds funny...reeeeaalll funny...it's almost the best part of the movie, it's so funny!
Kurt Russell's commentary tracks are always a good time. Always.
Good post balthazar_bee. Another great Russell moment featuring his infectious laugh is on the commentary for The Thing, in the scene where Blair is dragging Garry off after having stretched his face into a burlap sack. Neither Russell or Carpenter say a word. Russell just bursts out laughing. Then on to the next scene. I love it dearly because, as horrific as such scenes are, I find them tremendously amusing, just as Russell obviously does.

I've probably sold at least a half dozen copies of their DVD of this movie just by telling people "YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE COMMENTARY!" lol. I think in another thread here I've told this before but years back when I first got the DVD my wife was having surgery and I was sitting in the waiting room while it was going on. I had my laptop and had this movie put in, had in headphones and I watched it with the commentary for the first time and I was about to injure myself laughing but trying to do it quietly, I eventually had to just turn it off because I couldn't do it, they were making me laugh so hard lol..
btw, this is the best DVD commentary but right up there, maybe JUST as good is the commentary for Tropic Thunder. Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr in full "Lincoln" character...he's hilarious...
