Were Roy and Luke twin brothers?

Yes.

I either heard it in the DVD commentary or read somewhere that some of the top things which many actors want to do it curse on screen and play a set of twins and Jack Warden loved this movie because he got to do these two in the same movie...

Many years ago, a former co-worker told me that the Fuchs brothers are based on a pair of real life brothers who had car dealerships near each other in the same town in Oregon.
They did similar antics seen in the movie (like the carnival) in order to steal business away from each other, but nothing as drastic as a "Marshall Lucky" type incident.
I can't remember their names, but I believe one of them went on to preside over the National Car Dealer Association of America.
Were they twins?
I don't think so, but they were brothers.
