Frank McRae as Jim the Mechanic really makes this movie. So many classic, timelessly funny moments.

One of my favorite gags was the sleeping. The first time he's got a spray paint gun; in the second he's sleeping with a blowtorch in his hand.
As for my favorite scene, when he jumps on the car as HIGH PRICES in the commercial, I always crack up.
Or that look he has with the shovel when Rudy says "he thinks we're Lying Jim"

That's what's funny about Used Cars. The same summer it came out(1980), the "big name" comedy stars were in The Blues Brothers(Belushi and Ackroyd) and Caddyshack(Murray and Chase) and yet..who knew that Kurt Russell, Frank MacRae and Gerrit Graham(in the "blowing up cars" TV ad) would be as funny as any of the bigger names? Funnier, in some cases.
