the commentary

i thought the movie was pretty funny but the commentary is even better.
is kurt russell wasted or what? through out the whole commentary, kurt can't stop laughing. every single scene in the movie has kurt cracking up. i want to rent this movie again just to listen to the commentary. man that kurt russell is cool.

reply

hell yeah. watchin the commentary pointed out the nod to elvis he does in his trailer.
Remember. fifty bucks never killed anybody

reply

Yep. It's worth buying the DVD just to listen to the commentary. Russell can't stop laughing, and it's obvious he really loved making this one.

reply

Kurt gives the best commentaries in the business because he always sounds like he's having a great time. Check out his Big Trouble in Little China track with John Carpenter. They forget all about the movie as they drink beer and talk about old times. It's awesome.

reply

Kurt Russell is one of the nicest guys in the movie business. Hands down.

I just listened to the commentary today. One of the best ever!!!

I think we're just gonna have to be secretly in love with each other and leave it at that.

reply

I totally agree!

reply

Yes,you guys should check out all his commentaries with John Carpenter, they're obviously drinking and having a good time.

badgers? badgers!? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' BADGERS!!!

the funniest was when they said they didn't realise one of the kids was hypo(or hyper?)glycemic as they gave the kids a bunch of candy to get them all hyper, then you see him jumping on top of the car haha

reply

Thanks, this thread has convinced me to buy the DVD, even though I still have my second VHS copy (first one wore out, it's been one of my favorite movies since I saw it in the theater in 1980).

reply

I agree. I like it when the commentaries are lively and entertaining.

reply

Add me to the list. Hilarious! They pointed out a few things I wouldn't have noticed otherwise. For example, even as Luke was dying, he took the money from a customer.

And they made sure every character threw litter on the ground.

reply

Oh, and in the scene where Roy L. goes over in the morning after Luke dies and finds our guys finishing up the burial, and argues with Rudy, and Jeff repeats everything Rudy says, and Roy L. asks, "What are you, a f@#$ing parrot?"...that wasn't scripted. Jack Warden was actually getting mad at Jeff repeating everything. They liked it and left it in.

reply

I often say that this is the best and funniest commentary I've ever heard!

reply

Kurt is the man!

reply

yeah most enjoyable com track ive ever heard

reply

Absolutely the funniest commentary track ever.
This film also happens to be in my top 5 comedies of all time.

reply

Kurt does give the best commentaries - loved Big Trouble too. Hell, all the Carpenter/Russell commentaries are the best. Another great moment in this one is when Zemeckis is talking about that scene near the end of the movie when Jeff is walking backwards across the road and that car comes ripping by within an inch of his life. You can actually feel/hear Zemeckis cringe and say how it makes his balls shrivel watching it now.

Well, my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle.

You couldn't have explained it better!
I feel for Bob in that scene.
I need to listen to it again

I loved the part when they were talking about the kid that was jacked up on chocolate and sugar. They said half the crew was on cocaine and the kid was higher than any of them lol

reply

John Carpenter's The Thing was another really hilarious commentary. Kurt couldn't contain himself in that one as well as the commentary track on Used Cars.

reply

Yeah, Carpenter and Russell are incredibly entertaining on the Escape From New York, The Thing and Big Trouble In Little China commentaries. Those are probably my favorites. Used Cars commentary is amazing too. I also highly recommend the Boogie Nights commmentary with Paul Thomas Anderson and his cast. It's pretty amazing stuff... funny, informative and at times scary.

reply

FWIW, the commentary on Sideways is really good too. Paul Giamatti and Tom Hayden Church are cracking each other up through the whole thing. Several LOL moments.

reply

I've never listened to a commentary reel before but I loved this. The best movies are those where EVERYONE is on board and it's obvious from the commentary they had that chemistry. Given the close calls with stunt driving and using live ammunition, it's a miracle no one got killed making this.

reply

That scene with Jeff walking backwards into an oncoming car could not even be attempted today. The two Bobs were kicking themselves that they did it at all. I love it though, when the speeding car just misses him by just under two feet.
