Richard appears to have money so why the cheap hotel room?

Richard owns a luxury car and has money, so why did he rent such a cheap room at the Grand Hotel? He could also have bought a change of clothes while in 1912. As for the room, I can understand that if the place was fully booked but it was never mentioned.

It's a resort. Probably even the "cheap" rooms were expensive.
But he couldn't have bought a change of clothes when he arrived in 1912 because he didn't have any 1912 money.

When he sees his name in the 1912 hotel registry (proving he was there), the room number is listed also. So he knows that's the room he's going to be in.

It's one of those time loops without a beginning, just like the watch.

That has never made sense to me. And I didn't understand why such a fancy hotel bothered to have such plain, ugly rooms in the first place. I'm thinking that around the time this movie was made, grand hotels were not in fashion as vacation destinations, and people preferred modern resorts. These types of hotels are back in fashion again, especially the ones that have maintained their historic glamor.

"could also have bought a change of clothes while in 1912" He would need money that printed no later than 1912. His AMEX couldn't be used either.

The Grand Hotel is massively expensive, especially given how bare bones the rooms are.
