Has anyone tried doing that concentration to go back in time?

I have actualy tried it, for some reason I thought hey it might be possible, to concentrate on being in a time so much that maybe ill wake up in 1950. so far no luck, but will keep trying.

Realism, Remakes and Unnecessary Sequels are ruining movies!

Why 1950? Could you change anything?

Apparently the OP likes 1950, so why would he or she want to change anything?

In a lot of ways it's a metaphor..in some ways you it can work..if you believe in something and in yourself you can do anything you want...I'm not saying you're physically going to go back in time necessarily but this movie just shows that you have to stay positive and be yourself...anything is possible in life

"if you believe in something and in yourself you can do anything you want"

That is one of the most preposterous notions anyone ever conceived, yet we hear it and see it on motivational posters all the time. Hundreds of millions of people who believe in something and in their ability to achieve it fail all the time simply because they aren't smart enough, aren't talented enough, or aren't physically suited to whatever it is they aspire to do.

I tried it when I first saw the movie. However in my case I was more interested in seeing Jane Seymour than I was in actually traveling back in time.

reply

Yes, tried it. About eight years before this movie, actually, and I was happy that the author had had the same thought that I did.

Anyway, no luck. It doesn't prove anything. The only way to prove it works would be to actually succeed, but no number of failures would ever prove it couldn't work.

But the author didn't make a very strong case for it.
Reeves asks the professor "But you were actually back there?"
And the professor hesitates before saying quietly "I think so."

I did after I saw this movie, when it came out. I was only 10, so I was a kid who believed it could work! Of course, I fell asleep and woke up to my unhappy childhood home.

reply

Guilt of doing the same. I was 12.

Well, I'd like to try, but according to Hawking, we wouldn't be able to get over the paradoxes. However, traveling to the future is possible, so they say.

I'd like to go back to when I was a kid and tell myself it will be ok, I will survive high school.

reply

Going to the future is possible? Cool, I'll hypnotize myself to go about a week ahead in time and get all the winning Lotto Numbers!

reply

Traveling into the future is no problem - we're all doing it every second of our lives. It's going the other way that's the problem...

Greetings, jcreed01 of September 15. I went ahead of you to October 19.

Don't bother 'going into the future' to get Lotto numbers. All the ones I can see, including the ones from a week ahead of you, are already claimed.

But, if they are of any use to you, here they are: 8923 2371 5524 1121
And the Cardinals are going to win the National League.

As Chris Reeves' prof related, it probably should be tried in an atmosphere that is "evocative" of the past --- perhaps an old Venetian villa !

I've found some evocative places, but definitely do NOT have the patience to concentrate on time travel !

There's an antique store in my hometown that's in a very old building --- walking in the midst of so many old items (frequently sorted by decade) in such an old building, I frequently have an uncanny sense of "the past."

Then there's Sonnenberg Gardens in Canandaigua, NY --- a few of my friends have related that there were many strangely familiar things about the mansion, gardens, & grounds, despite the fact that they had never visited the place before !

J'ai l'oeil AMÉRICAIN !
