Stephen King is an absolute hypocrite.
King praises the Netflix adaptation of Shirley Jackson's novel, The Haunting of Hill House, and calls it brilliant. Is he right? Yes. Show's amazing. But that's besides the point. That show made no attempt to be accurate to the novel. None. It pretty much took dialogue, ideas and names from the Robert Weis movie and did its own thing.
So why did that show get away with it? Why does King judge a show on its own merits when its based on another book, but when a movie wants to take material from his book and do its own thing, he acts like a crime is committed, and makes no attempt to do the same?
