the movie preview destroyed the exploding head for me

ok, this is the story. I was 10 or 12 years old when i went to see Oh Heavenly Dog with my mom, before the movie started they showed some previews and one of those was scanners, the preview was the entire exploding head scene, as a mater of fact it ended exactly when the head explodes, as you can imagine i was so shocked that i could barely sleep the whole night, i even had a headache and i thought that my head was going to explode too :D anyway my point is why they spoiled the most shocking thing of the movie in the preview??? i donĀ“t get it, that was completely stupid and it destroyed the movie for me. anybody else had the exploding head spoiled for the preview???

Yes, and previews are constantly spoiling movies, imo. Not every trailer does this but many do. I especially think it ruines a good horror movie because I don't want to know what the monster/alien/ghost/killer looks like until I'm actually watching the movie because the curiosity is half the fun.

How lucky I was ) Watched it for the first time just because of Ironside and Cronenberg names in the credits. I wish there was a way to know absolutely nothing about a movie you're going to watch, yet, to know that it wouldn't suck. Sadly, there have to be promotional materials. Scanners happens to be one of those films that rely heavily on just one memorable scene.

I was very annoyed when I wanted to share this great movie with a friend. I was particularly hoping for a reaction to the exploding head scene - but it was spoilt before we even started as the Anchor Bay DVD uses it on the animated menu for setting the audio options!!

Fortunately I watched the movie before the trailer. I try and do this with lots of movies... just watch them out of the blue without really knowing what it's about.

Trailers can seriously ruin a movie. The trailer for 'Prince of Darkness, (which is an awesome movie btw,) shows the last 10 minutes of the movie. How it did that within only 2 minutes is still beyond me.

Anyone who still has faith in humanity has never been to the imdb boards.

The exploding head has appeared in .GIFs across the internets for a long time before I saw the movie, but somehow it still surprised me. Plus, Scanners is always known as the movie with the exploding heads. I guess I wasn't expecting it to appear so soon.

At least the trailer doesn't use the good exploding head effect as seen in the finished film, but one of the earlier alternate attempts.
