Climactic Scanner Battle = One of the best scenes in movie history

I just have to say... the climactic scene in Scanners blew me away the first time I saw it. The second time (tonight) was somehow even better. One of the greatest scenes in movie history, IMO. The special effects, sound effects, music, etc, all combi...ned to make for one hell of an intense and awesome scene.

In agreement. I keep waiting for someone to top Cronenberg on that scene. Every effect in his first few films was just perfect though.

Sorry is for criminals and losers.

I agree that it was the best part of the movie, but that does not mean it was good. The whole movie was terrible, I don't recall having seen a movie in a long time with acting with acting this bad. Michael Ironside did an okay job, but the lines he was fed were really bad. Even Howard Shore who is an awesome composer somehow made a soundtrack that made my ears bleed. I havent seen much of Cronenberg's early work but I like some of his newer movies, so I don't understand what went so wrong in this movie.
The premise of the movie is interesting enough, but the writing, acting, soundtrack and the poor editing just ruins everything this movie might have to offer. I'm not trying to say that anyone is wrong for liking this movie, because if you can look past the terrible presentation of the premise I guess you would be able to enjoy it.

I loved The Idea but I think it ended up looking a little silly. It does makes perfect sense for people to make strenuous faces like that if they were having their mind and body violently attacked...but it may not be entirely practical to show it as such. It's a tough scene to film.

I actually thought it was a bit lame. I mean, the two strongest minds attackin each others body and all they do is rip off some skin and blow up some veins ? Pulease, amateurs.
I do agree, it was well done OP said, good music and intense and all that, but afterwards I was like, mmmkay was that it ? Was waiting the whole friggin movie for that end battle and lookin forward for some really nasty gore, the kind where you have to put a cloth under your TVscreen cus of all the blood dripping of it.

Oh well, I did enjoy the movie nontheless tho, eventho the end was a bit of an anticlimax. Micheal Ironside is top notch once again. Togheter with Mcdowell, my favourite badguys.

If there is any poor execution in this movie - I usually find it endearing.
From memeory - the scene was cut down in size. So if so - it could have been more than what we have seen. I think on the dvd cover (here in australia) there is at least one 'final battle' picture on the back cover - Vale with glowing eyes - that isn't in the movie we now see.

Perhaps there was a censors purity at stake or sumfinnnn.

I think something that made the end-scene really exiting to me was its music and sound effects.
