why was Revok kill other scanners? The ones who don't join his army? From the scene when they were all in a circle (group therapy) they don't care for a war, they're pretty much neutral. So why go through the trouble of killing them?
Would he'd have killed the next generation if they didn't want to fight?
Considering he was willing to kill his own brother when Cameron refused to cooperate, I think, yes, he would've killed the next generation if they didn't do as he wanted. He killed the Scanner at the demonstration because he was a Con Sec employee (and therefore emphatically a "traitor" in Revok's eyes) and because he just wanted to show off and get Ruth's attention.
"I mean, really, how many times will you look under Jabba's manboobs?"
After posting this, I also realized something- Revok does not competition. The Kim said that "We were the dream- he was the nightmare." He killed the scanner circle because they were an alternative to his evil revolution army. Plus, the were a whole crop of baby scanners on the way, waiting for Revok to get to and brainwash.
So, yeah, this and your reasoning makes sense for the evil megalomaniac overlord-to-be Revok.
Both Benjamin Pierce & Kim Obrist knew of Revok. Pierce even said 'I have friends. I don't want them...but I have them.' So, that can only mean that he had been approached by Revok to join his side or whatever and agreed to prevent from being killed.
So when Benjamin is dying and Cameron Vale is connected to him telepathically why does Benjamin say 'The Eye of Revok...The Eye of Revok...They're zombies, robots, killers...They'll turn me into a zombie...There are others, Other scanners...Kill Obrist...Kill Obrist...'. I understand the 'Eye of Revok' is probably in answer to Cameron asking him who were the people who just shot him and I understand the explanation of them not being scanners but only killers, but the 'Kill Obrist' part I don't understand.
Is he warning Cameron that Kim Obrist would be next on Revok's list or was Benjamin telling Vale that Obrist needed to be eliminated. I thought that Obrist had a social relationship with Pierce since she was at his Art showing and obviously knew the Dealer since she called him by name and scanned Vale as a result of him scanning the Dealer. It almost seems like Kim Obrist was in a relationship with Revok or being used by Revok to lure Cameron to him and at the end when she enters the room she senses something that surprises her because I think she was expecting Revok to be the only survivor or at least still alive with Cameron agreeing to be a part of Revok's group. I mean, her and Cameron were the sole survivors of two attacks, the one in the apartment and the one in the van. That's just too coincidental. She had to be aligned with Revok to bring Vale to him.
Also, how did Revok know where the Scanner group was meeting up so he can be outside with some guys packin shotguns to start wiping people out. The same can be said for the killers just showing up out of nowhere at Pierce's house. Someone had to be following them or there had to be an insider. Kim Obrist was at the Art opening and she knew he was there looking for Benjamin because she said so the first time he meets her which shows that she had discussed him specifically being there with the Dealer. So she could have easily been there watching and waiting for Cameron Vale at the art showing because Revok was told by the Head of Security that ConSec was sending him.
I'm not 100%, as there are still a few things I've yet to be able to answer from reliable sources...not just a bunch of armchair critic speculation, which is really irritating because not knowing the answer is starting to bother me.
What I hear Cameron hearing from Ben at the artist studio is "Kim Obrist" not "Kill Obrist". I think Ben is telling Cameron to save her from the death squad. I like your analysis tho and I agree Kim is semi cryptic. and dubious in the beginning. Wikipedia says somthing about David Cronenberg having issues with the script and plot changes at the last minute. Or something.
I was watching with the subtitles on and it said 'Kill' and not 'Kim', and it's in his mind so his lips aren't moving for me to make a clear enough distinction. but they could have definitely made a mistake, it wouldn't be the first time I've seen incorrect subs, but they don't seem to be off for any of the rest so, I'm going under the assumption, they're right.
It would be interesting to find out how Cronenberg actually intended the story to go. I guess I'll have to keep looking. Great movie though.
