The Criterion Collection is available in 1080p HD on iTunes, and Amazon Instant Video also has it in HD. Shame they didn't release it on Blu-ray for the U.S. market. Maybe they thought sales wouldn't be good so why bother spending money on the packaging, just release via digital.
shareCriterion Blu-rays of this and The Brood should be coming in a few months! Why the early release in digital I'm not sure, but they've been hinting that these are on the way for a little while.
shareI hope this is true. I would love to have this on criterion blu ray. I am not really into getting movies on digital releases. I guess I would if a blu ray release isn't coming out, but if it is I would rather just wait for it than get the digital.
shareI'm with you. I only buy digital copies for "archive" movies or things that are otherwise hard or impossible to find on disc. Big nut about picture and sound quality. :)
That said, I definitely recommend renting on iTunes if you can't wait. I rented this and 'The Brood,' and they both looked fantastic in the 1080p versions. (Fantastic for digital copies, needless to say.)
