The Remake.... Will It Happen This Year?

I believe a new fresh take on this film could be spectacular. After 30 years of advancements in special effects, I can see real potential in a remake. The film would need a great director who also good with remakes like Spielberg (War of the Worlds), John Carpenter (The Thing), Philip Kaufman (Invasion of the Body Snatchers - 1978) or Ridley Scott (just because I love Alien).

It was projected in October of 2008 to be director by Darren Bousman. This guy wasn't even good with the Saw sequels. Since that date has come and gone, it might be a good omen for the movie. This could allow the project to be rescued by one of the far more superior aforementioned directors to take control. I have my fingers crossed!

No. Just no. I may change my mind on this later, if anything promising comes up. Until then, no.

Cronenberg should remake Scanners.

"Cronenberg should remake Scanners."

Especially relevant as the shooting for SCANNERS was disastrous, Cronenberg wrote the script between sunset and sunrise during each shooting day. Pre production only had 2 weeks for preparation and there were close to no fixed shooting locales. If he could remake it, I am sure he might bring more style to it, BUT...

Cronenberg is notorious for never doing anything twice. He shelved Painkillers because he felt he "already did it". So... chances are low.

i would absolutely LOVE to see this remade, but a good director must be used. if they get some lame no name i will be skeptical. but who knows it could turn out like the new EVIL DEAD and blow me away.
