pretty much a complete rip of 'The Fury'

This movie was cool but it's basically a remake of De Palma's The Fury, which also contains a certain remarkable special effect...

...and De Palma ripped "The Fury" from "The Power".

reply

Exactly! But why did a genius like Cronenberg steal something like the whole finale scene from The Fury? Why? psychosonic - psychocosmic...?

reply

Cronenberg (and others) borrowed the consept from William Burrough's "Naked Lunch" which had telepaths named "Senders" with similar abilities as in these movies. There's also a movie named "The Sender" (Roger Christian)...needless to say, it uses a similar consept.

reply

Aha! Burroughs again? Thank you very much psychosonic!

reply

Haha! Burroughs stole the idea from lotsa earlier sci-fi-authors too...

reply

Aha! I should have looked into my Sci-Fi Encyclopedias I have! But i love early science fiction....

reply

"Sender" and "receiver" predates Burroughs in psychic research.
