Mall locations?

Where was the opening scene filmed? The mall scene that is. Anyone know what mall that was and if it still looks the same? I'm asking because I really liked the touch it had, that sort of early 80's retro feeling about it all the way through (although it wasn't retro back then, mind you). I'm hoping they've preserved the look to this date!

I always wondered that too

Apparently it was

"...the Food Court at the Yonge & Bloor Center (located in the basement/Yonge and Bloor Subway enterance of the shopping complex) just across the street from Yorkville. "

must have been refurbished surely?

Hi, I don't know where you got the information about the mall but it is incorrect. The opening mall scene was shot at 20-20 University which is all part of the underground section linked to the McGill Metro station in Montreal. At one point you clearly see the 20-20 sign. Some of the stores have French names only (La Crémière, for instance). I live in Montreal and know the mall well (or at least, knew it well in the early 1980s, the time this film was shot).

the link I posted related to website that said it was Toronto, wrong obviously:

Are there any pictures of what the place looks like nowadays? I sure hope they've kept the ambiance!

I know for a fact it's in Montreal as I have a photo from when the wife & I were there in 1977.
It's a very pretty MALL and we got a big kick when we saw it in the film.

Here it is

Used to go there all the time when I was a kid. Reminded me of something out of a Clockwork Orange. Sadly it's no longer there.

Oh sorry to hear that.

What is there now? Have they renovated the place?

Shame if it is gone, I liked the ambiance from the film. Really felt retro, like a place I would like to visit.

Remember the horrible dubbing of the women at the food court commenting on Cameron? I think they were speaking French, but English soundtrack over it
