Yeah, AFAIR there was some secret military project which needed a rare mineral, and it turned out that the only significant deposit that existed in the world had been mined around the turn of the century and then shipped to America... on board the Titanic. So the US military wanted it raised to get that material from the hold, and the Russians wanted to stop them without provoking outright war.
Of course most of that got removed when they turned a six-inch-thick book into a movie...
But its a great book of course I am a Clive Cussler Fan and have read all his book Even his Non Fiction Books about Ships he really has found. Time for More People to Pick up Books instead of just sitting in front of the Boob Tube.
