I first got into the Titanic when I was six. At my old school, we had a whole week devoted to the Titanic alone. Having seen 'S.O.S. Titanic' and 'A Night to Remember', my dad then introduced me to 'Raise the Titanic!'.

I admit that a lot of the film is dull, poorly written and not very well acted. And 'Raise the Titanic' is NOT one of my favourite films. But as a young Titanic fan, seeing the Titanic rising out of the water in this film...

What Titanic fan WOULDN'T want to walk the decks of the Titanic, years later? Look up at the cracked dome like Dirk Pitt did and walk up the grand staircase? It's the stuff of dreams. That's why this film means so much for me. A lot of people won't get that...

See this film if only for those scenes. It'll be worthwhile for that alone.

I found it a moving experience. Yes, it sounds cheesy, but after seeing the Titanic sink so many times, it was breathtaking to see it raised (with the fabulous music of John Barry) and fascinating to see the interiors etc (the dome ceiling) and seeing the late Richard Jordan raising the ships flag, so many years later.

I totally agree. The atmosphere when he walks on the Titanic was brilliant. The music by John Barry is one of the best musical scores written as with the 'Memories' scene. Nice post by the two of you and I totally agree with what has been said.

I take my hat off to you three. You may only be movie lovers and not feel the same for history, but that was my favorite part of the movie as well. I've read the book 6 times and each time I imagine that scenario the way Richard Jordan played it. It was extremely satisfying for a Titanic Historian such as myself. I have been a member of the THS (Titanic Historical Society) since 1984. One year before the remains of the magnificent ship were rediscovered.

When you look at Titanic, ( I mean the film that was an 11 academy award winner by James Cameron)... All you have to do with watching Raise the Titanic with the "Memories of the Titanic" scene is embrace the millions that was spent on the Cameron picture, but looking back, it is put into 2 minutes and 10 seconds of brilliance that was made way back in 1980.

A truly unique piece of literature in every sense.

I feel the same way about the Film. I was nine years old when I saw it in the Drive-In. It's too bad the 1985 discovery ruined the belief that the ship sank in one piece.

Yeah, the discovery of its remains ruined my hope of an actual "Raise the Titanic."

I completely agree. The best scene in the whole movie. And John Barry's score is excellent - "Memories of the Titanic" is a fine piece of music (I recommend the soundtrack CD).
