Great film, great score!

Despite what that other individual feels, this is an all time fave of mine....I've gone into the details under the "idiots" moniker.....
As for the score, it's wonderful vintage Barry.....
I took note of the fact that no one who commented "Bad film, great score" even mentioned how amazingly (?) similar Barry's score to this film is to his '79 composition for Disney's Black Hole?......Try listening to them and see what you think....
Oh yeah, as good as Barry is, his UNOFFICIAL mentor (they never met to my knowledge) was Finnish composer Jean Sibelius...........The influence is unmistakable.

wow, Sibelius inspired Barry? beautiful, indeed, the score is awesome.
And so is the movie, I so love the 80s, and this is such a great movie, despite what most of the ppl around here say, and even more.. that the Titanic wreck wasn't discovered until 5 yrs after this movie was made. So I think they did a great job 30 yrs ago, comparing to the bullcrap that's coming out now. It's really sad a movie like this has only 3.9 on imdb. Should've have at least 6.4 or more.

I, too, totally agree with the OP. John Barry was long a favorite of mine and this was one his better scores. Despite all the criticism I still love the movie. The scene where they actually raise the Titanic is terrific. I didn't mind Richard Jordan as Dirk Pitt but I thought he played him too nasty. The Pitt I remember from the books wasn't quite as surly as he was in this film. Then, of course, they went the opposite way in SAHARA and played him like a California surfer! When I read in the trivia section that they considered Steve McQueen I thought he would have made a GREAT Dirk Pitt-too bad that never came off.
