Titanic Model Used in the Film
For those who haven't seen it, the model built for this film was very impressive. Not just in it's detail, but scope and size. At 55' long and 10 tons, it was the biggest complete model of the Titanic ever built, with rigging, and lit up with numerous lights from the inside and out. The model should not be confused with the SS Athinai, a Greek vessel that was used for some exterior shots.
Meanwhile, the once beautiful model still sits near the studio where the film was shot near Malta, but is a rusting hulk, just like it's namesake. The original model builder is hoping to restore it.
