Why is it that...

....Martin Scorsese makes pictures about the kinds of people you wouldn't want to know? Just viewed this supposedly "great movie." The academy must've been lazy with it's politics to give De Niro the best actor Oscar that year. When it should've gone to John Hurt for The Elephant Man. Which IS a PHENOMENAL movie! Raging Bull on the other hand is a trash movie with trashy people. And it wasn't even in color. Granted there are many brilliant black and white movies like... The Elephant Man. But Raging Bull isn't one of them. Only Scorsese would make a black and white movie about an abusive man turned pro- boxer and who no one has ever heard of before this movie was made portrayed by a phenomenal actor. This is just something I could barely sit and watch all the way through hoping at some point it would get better and I won't be viewing again.

You're not supposed to like Jake... The entertainment value of this film does not come from having wonderfully lovable characters. The fact that the character can get under your skin so well is a testament to the movie being well made.

I also notice your Hannibal Lector signature. Is Silence a bad movie because you wouldn't want to get to know Lector in real life?

Why? Because it was the story he wanted to tell. LaMotta was pretty famous in the sporting world in the 1940s into the early 1950s.
