Do you think Beth ever came back home?

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I merely curious.

No. She realized there was absolutely no hope of making that marriage or that relationship with her son work on HER terms, so she cut both ex-husband and her only surviving son out of her life.

After an ugly divorce and a few rough years, I'm sure she found another husband! Maybe it was someone rather older, a guy who wanted a peaceful and comfortable home, maybe it was dishonest businessman who needed someone to keep up a respectable facade. Either way, the second marriage was a success, and she eventually succeeded in cutting his rotten ungrateful kids out of the will...

Agree with you and added that I believe she will come back after a month to convince her husband to get back together (credit to President4Life who said it first). The meaning of divorce for her is to break the image she built all these years of the perfect and happy family. But I don't seen Cal withdraws from his decision so she really has no choice. It will be tough road to accept that (Maybe even harassment and stalking). After that your script sound spot on.

I watch this movie at least once per year, and sometimes I think Beth will miss her life with Calvin and try to work things out. I don't know whether that would be successful.

reply

No.

She can't handle been around Conrad and totally blames him for Bucks death and the shame of having a child like Conrad who isn't perfect doesn't fit her perfect life. She just hates her son and that's never going to go away. With Calvin no longer in love with her. It's a fresh start for her elsewhere. And I think for Calvin and Conrad it's best for them too.
