Bringing Replies To Light

I mentioned my Resource Site for The Ninth Configuration within the thread below this one. It is also located in the 'Miscellaneous' links section of the main TNC page, here at imdb.com. I should have a proper forum up for the film shortly, so if anyone is interested, keep a lookout!

I know this extraordinary castle is located in the vicinity of Budapest, Hungary. But does anyone know the exact location or the name of it?!

Thanks!

hi brightvisitor, you asked so here goes!

if you listen to the commentary by w.p.blatty on the dvd of ninth configuration, he repeatedly states that the film was shot in budapest. when commenting on the exterior shots of the castle however (the very first shots of his directing career!), he vaguely mentions "burg eltz". somewhat misleading, as although he doesn't say so, this location is in fact in germany, in the south west, in a volcanic lake/forrest region called the eifel. it was all of the castle's interiors which were shot on a soundstage in budapest.i recently spent new year with friends in a village about an hours drive from eltz castle, and when i found out that the location was nearby, and being a big fan of the film, it became a must-see. and it was well worth it! it is an incredible 11th century structure which has been added to over the centuries, and is owned privately through ancestral lineage. usually you can go inside, but on the day that we visited they were having a private party, but seeing even the exterior of this amazing castle was great, and in a way being locked out preserved some of the film's mystery.

you can see photos and read more about the history of the place if you google "eltz castle" or "burg eltz".

"don't blame me, i told them not to operate!"
