Blatteys Audio Comentary

I had to laugh listening to WPB's commnentary on this movie. It is moderated by what seems to be a film student grad (no offense inteded to those who may be). The moderator continues to try to get some deep meaning out of everything seen in the film.

Comments like "the dracula poster in the background, did you put that there to evoke the undead theme of the movie?" WPB replies "no, i just put it there because i liked it" This happens time and time again.

It just goes to show how so many people over analyze a movie and try to find some deep hidden meaning in everything. Most of the time props are just there because thats what they happend to have on hand at the time. Nothing more.

I get so tired of hearing film snobs over analyze a movie to death.

Actually it's Mark Kermode who's interviewing Blatty.

He's a British film critic, a real Blatty fan and largely responsible for the 'version you've never seen' release of The Exorcist and getting that cut of this film (Blatty's favourate so far) released on DVD. He is also as far as I know the only critic to see Legion in it's original 'unmessed with' form. And has tirelessly campaigned to get it made available for us to see.

He is as FAR from being a snob as any critic can be and his rants against pretention in cinema have to be heard to be believed. His BBC Radio 4 reviews are available to download either individually or in podcast form from the BBC Radio 4 website.

Mark Kermode also made "The Fear Of God" the excellent documentary about "The Exorcist". Which got Friedkin and Blatty talking about the deleted scenes and how they might be put back.

Is there any word out on whether "Fear of God" will ever be relased on DVD?

By the way, did anybody else think that Blatty seemed rather rather bored in the audio commentary, with Kermode almost forcing him to say something about each scene?

reply

There's an Exorcist boxset that came out this year. You might try looking into that.

Truffaut: Do dreams have a bearing on your work?
Hitchcock: Daydreams, probably.

Do you know what he has said about it? The original cut of TEIII, I mean..
