So many different versions

This is such a remarkable movie, it's amazing too how many versions there are of it, I have two copies of this film but they are different from each other, each having parts that are not in the other. Am I making sense? And there are others that I haven't seen yet. I remember when I first saw this film and how amazing and emotional I felt it was and so thought provoking. I want so much to see this movie fully and take it all in, all the reviews I've read are glowing, I just adore this wonderful film so very much.

I think it's five different ones... Let me check my notebook for the longest...

Okay, don't know which one is the longest (unspecified ranging from 99-140min), but Blatty said in the commentarty of his director's cut (118min) that he would release the completely uncut version some time in the future. I haven't seen the movie, but I'd definitly like to. I like surreal stuff :).

I think there are two versions still available, which vary largely but not completely in their ending. The older one, which you probably can find on video, is shorter. The other is on DVD. There are some additional sequences on the DVD which are split out as deleted scenes, and I'm guessing they'd be part of a 140-minute version. If they represent the best of the rest, I think the film in its current DVD form is the best you can get.

The first time I saw this movie I was a seventeen year-old punk on my first (and last) LSD trip... It totally blew my socks off!! and when I saw it again just a few years ago I was expecting to be disappointed, but again... WOW!!

Also, it was this movie that made me such a huge fan of the criminally under-rated
actor; Scott Wilson.

I had no idea there were different versions of this movie out there and I can't wait to see them all... so now I'm off to hunt them down.

You have to see this movie!!!!!!!!! Surreal, hilarious, original and mind blowing (check out the bar fight scene, the Shakespeare with dogs scene etc).
