Question...

I swear, when I saw Little Darlings on tv, I heard the song Let YOur Love Flow somewhere in the movie. ( don't remembe when) And on my copy of the vhs, it's nowhere. Does anyone know why?

reply

"Let Your Love Fly" by the Bellamy Brothers played over the end credits. It was there when I taped it on cable a few years back. Not sure about the VHS version, though.

So what song replaced it? I can't imagine any other for the end titles.

reply

YES IN THE NEW VERSION OH MY LOVE BY JOHN LENNON IS NOT IN THERE

reply

I got my tape from a Hollywood video that was going out of business, and it has let your love flow and oh my love, so I know that there are some out there you just have to find them.

reply

I got my vhs new in the early 90's and that one has Let Your Love Flow, One Way Or Another, Oh My Love, etc, on it. I think that's why the dvd hasn't been issued yet, they are most likely having problems getting the rights to the music.

reply

Yes, that is more than likely the reason why the movie has not been released on DVD. I think the 1992 re-release with the red box cover does not contain all the original songs. Is that the one you purchased or does it have the white cover?

reply

I have the original and it has all the songs and credits. It has been my all time favorite movie since the day I saw it-New Years Eve 1981. My dad bought it for me on my 16th birthday. I also have a copy of the TV version with all of the additional scenes, edits and voice overs. I'll never understand why it still airs edited, when there are programs on with more mature content. Every young teenage girl should be allowed to see it. The message still stands today.

You probably have one of the earlier releases of the film on VHS. Does yours have the title of the film and credits behind a blue background with the Paramount Home Video lettering and logo on the bottom right hand corner?. I noticed you mentioned in another post that you got the video back in 1983. As the home video businness began booming around that time, the issue of song rights came up on some film releases. This film, along with other films suffered when it came time to home video re-release as studios could not or would not get clearance to the songs heard in some films. As for the film being edited on television, it is possible the TV stations have obtained an older, already edited print of the film. That is just a guess.

reply

Yep. That's the one I have. It has the picture of Kristy and Tatum on the front and opens like a book to remove the tape. With all of the talk about it, I had to watch it. Just finished it about 45 minutes ago. Still just as good as the first time. And I STILL cry everytime she says "my best friend".

reply

Yeah, you have one of the older releases that include the book style cover. Looks like the older release contains the original songs, whereas the 1992 re-release with the red cover contains the altered songs.

reply

I guess we're in the 'lucky' group. For $60-80 bucks back then, it should come with autographs or something. I take it, you have seen the additional scenes in the TV version. Everyone is so concerned about the music, I must be the only one interested in the extra footage. LOL I'm actually watching the TV version right now. Couldn't help it.

Yeah, i started purchasing videos in the late 80's, when i had to pay $30-$40 for a new VHS movie. I saw the TV version many years ago when it was shown on NBC. I'm guessing most are not aware or have never seen the additional footage. Not sure if current TV broadcasts of the film contain the additional scenes. I came across the issue with the 1992 re-release when my friend told me that her copy had different songs. She has never seen the additional scenes.

reply

I've only seen this movie once, I believe it was in 1985 or so. It was on television, broadcasting in the UK. My cousin and I, both only about 10 at the time, loved it!

A few people have mentioned seeing it aired on US television. I've never come across this in my many years in the U.S.

reply

Not sure when NBC stopped airing the film with the added scenes or whether any other networks broadcast the film with the added scenes. I recall watching the television version on NBC in the early 80's. King Kong (1976) was another film i remember NBC showing also around that time with additional scenes.

reply

I haven't seen a tv version in the US since the late 80's. I did just buy the paperback book from e-bay and could not believe how really badly written it is. What came first, the book or the movie? I love, love, love the movie though. I would love to have it on DVD with the extra scenes.

reply

The director never approved those extra scenes for TV viewing, and Paramount no longer sends out copies of it. Any stations that still use it are really not supposed to, as there is a newer TV version with far less edits.

The director, btw, loathes those xtra scenes, and I have to agree with him. They have a real bad added voice-over where some girl says (during the big bet scene) "oh I get it the first girl to get a guy to fall in love with her wins" or something. You don't see anyone at all saying it, and the voice does not belong to any of these actresses in the scene.

Then there is a weird scene with Kristy leaving Matt in a rowboat during a sudden storm and saving Tatum ! It adds nothing and is really really pointless.

Then there is a silly scene when the girls, one by one, go into the main camp office presumably to tell the truth about what happened and didn't happen between Assante and tatum.(Right after Cinder punches that girl).

These scenes are just awkward cover-ups for the racier moments and are badly integrated.

I actually have two copies on vhs, the older one has the movie credits in a blue box with the "Little Darlings" in red letters, and that has all the original songs, and then I also have the red bordered cover and that one as well has all the original songs.

reply

The movie most definitely came first. I'm guessing you have the pink bordered book with the pic of the swimsuit on the cover? That's the one I have. Those kinds of books are called "movie tie-ins" and used to be quite popular (when kids still read books) that were released in conjunction with movies, mainly as an attempt to gross more money, I think. Some of the more recent ones I've seen in stores were for Mona Lisa Smile, 13 Going On 30 and Win A Date With Tad Hamilton!, although more adult movie tie-ins are still once in a great while made as well, I think. I just saw one for The Pink Panther.

reply

You must of have a bad edit tape. Is it on vhs? Mine is old copy and the Bellamy brothers song is on there.....
