The Wonder Years

This movie was made when I was 13 and it still remains one of my favorite. I have been to sleepaway camp every summer and hated it. At that tender age being in a bunk with no friends and not being that great in sports made it a very long summer. My parents didn't want me to stay home all summer so I was forced to go. I didn't make any friends since the kids were too competitive with the sports and they were all spoiled kids. Looking back I did not learn anything or become a better person from this experience. That's why I loved this movie so much since it was filmed during 1980 the same time I was in my last years of sleepaway camp which reminded me of what it feels like to be a kid. And more importantly the fact that Ferris and Angel at least made one friend and had a learning experience that will help them through life. Looking back during my youth I was so caught up in just losing my virginity and this movie made me realize it was supposed to be with someone special.

Wow thats really cool, I remember going to a camp once in summer, only for a few weeks and HATED it soo much, like yourself I never made any friends. I also remember crying a lot because the girls were not very friendly at all, just very snobbish and spiteful. But now I just laugh when I think about it, and this movie brings back fond memories of the type of stuff that happend.

This movie has nothing, absolutly nothing in common with American pie!!
And I'm very glad about it because "Little Darlings" is such a wonderful movie with an important message and not a stupid teen movie like "American pie".
So if you like to watch a movie like "American pie" you'll be disapointed. But if you like to watch a very warm-hearted story with the first being-in-love-moments then you have to watch "Little Darlings".
Why isn't it still out in Germany on DVD? I love this movie so much!
And back to topic: I know how terrible it is, to stay at the summer holidays in a summer camp while the parents have their fun alone without a kid around their feet. It was very terrible for me and I cried so often and phoned at my mom and asked her to get me back home but she thought I would make friends there.
So some kids have fun in a summer camp and some kids don't have that luck.
I wish that I had such a great time like the kids had in "Little Darlings" but maybe it was just my destiny ;-)

I'm really saddened to hear your story about how much you hated camp. Movies like this and Parent Trap, make it look like everyone is having a great time.

I never went to a "sleepover" camp. Shame on your parents for dumping you there if you didn't really like being there.
