I have this great movie on DVD-R in its 2:35 widescreen splender!!
I recently got this movie on DVD-R and its very special because its from a HD recording and its in its true 2:35 ratio so its the true widescreen version and what a difference this makes from the always seen pan and scan versions on VHS and laserdisc and, when shown on TV.
When this movie has been shown on TV, it was shown in widescreen during the first 2 or 3 minutes and, goes to pan and scan after the words fade of who directed it.
The widescreen version I have is remastered and truly appears as if the studio released this to DVD!! There is a small logo at the bottom right of the screen that says "INHD only on cable tv". I have no idea what HD channel had shown this but, no matter, I am truly thankful to have this in widescreen and that it looks so sharp and is remastered. It is the complete unedited and ad free version so it must have been shown on some HD pay channel.
Now here is the strange thing about this DVD-R: When it plays, the movie is in the 1:85 ratio and, of course you are not seeing the complete picture this way and, so, the TV I have is a Sony Wega 32 inch which has a feature on it which is a 16:9 enhanced thing where when you have a DVD that says on it "enhanced for widescreen TVs" ,this feature on the Sony will make the movie seem HD as you do not see the scan lines at all!
Well, what I tried is, I first put the DVD player into the 16:9 mode and then did this with the Sony and, oh man was I very pleasented surprised to find the picture was then in its 2:35 ratio!!!!! I tested this about 3 times as I would go to a scene, and make a note of the sides of the movie and then, put it back to the 16:9 mode and WOW, sure enough, there was the FULL image, as the director filmed it!!!!!!!
And also, I mentioned the logo thing on the right side of the screen and, this is shown just a little part of it when the dvd plays in the 1:85 ratio but of course when I fix it to play the 2:35 ratio, then you see the logo fully.
I believe that if Paramount does put this wonderful movie to DVD it will look just as good as my version as it looks so sharp and clean and is remastered!!.
I just had to share my joy about this with you as its really exciting to finally have this in all its 2:35 widescreen splender!!!!!!!!!! :)
