It sounds cold...

...but the moment I heard about Michael Jackson's demise, I immediately hoped that The Lathe of Heaven could be restored with the original Beatles' With a Little Help From My Friends.

Anybody know the status of the Beatles' catalog, now that Michael's gone?

There was one report Michale might have returned them to Paul in his Will.

I don't know. Does it sound cold that the first thing that went through my mind upon hearing Billy Mays died was that now I won't have to hear him yell on the tv anymore? Now, that's pretty cold.

I was under the impression that Jackson had hocked the future royalties from the catalogue to a firm that does just that--take future royalty payments as collateral for loans--to finance his over-the-top lifestyle. If that's the case then I doubt he could have willed back the rights to Paul McCartney, since this other firm would have a claim.

I suppose I should look all this up but I'm too lazy to confirm anything I just said so I'll just let it stand and add to the misinformation and speculation ;)
