shareI really can't say which is the better movie. Both were excellent. But think that this version may be truer to the book.

I far preferred the original, although the more modern version is worth watching as well. I actually prefer the original movie over the book, but then again I saw the movie before I read the book, so that doubtlessly influenced my view.
shareAs the author said herself. She loved seeing the Aliens as curiosity shop owners and hot dog vendors. Excellent. Loved both but the original is the best by far.

The 1980 version is so much better, the new version really isn't good. When I watched the new one I was wondering what the hell did they do.

Just cut them up like regular chickens.
The original. Why? Because the A&E version, while "cooler" looking, leaves a lot of the plot out; it simply is not faithful to the book. That's why the WNET/PBS version is the best.

My late husband wasn't familiar with the book or movie, so when the new version came out I was excited to share it with him. Underwhelmed, he said afterward, "So this guy dreams and the wallpaper changes?"
I agree with him. So much is missing from the remake that the story is lost.
