Wow, you can really tell this was made by 2 different directors
The difference between the main plotline and the "humanoids-rape-hotties" subplot is so jarring it's hilarious.

shareThat's for sure. It really is two films in one, neither of them that satisfying in my book. It starts out as a cautionary environmental tale, and ends up an exploitive piece of cheese. Nothing gets resolved, and it ends pretty abruptly.

Indeed. The humanoid rape scenes are so over the top as to have little impact. Thanks for mentioning "Dagon" -- I need to seek that out (because I'm into Lovecraft, not rape).

I didn't want to sound like one of those creeps on these boards who loves to talk about rape. I like the Stuart Gordon films, but sometimes they're a little too "funny" or campy (intentionally), which seems to betray the dark subject matter.
shareYep, but still a great movie! :P

That really is amusing! When I looked at the credits and saw that a woman directed it I was quite astonished that a female would direct such a female exploitative movie. Of course a male would direct such a scene. Roger Corman must have looked at the footage in progress and decided to have a male director fill in scenes that would appeal to a grindhouse audience. The sad part is if those ridiculous fish monster raping nubile female scenes were not added, "Humanoids from the Deep" would never have become the cult classic that it has become!
If you love and support Michael Jackson 100%, copy & paste this into your signature. We love MJ!
I may be the only person who thinks that both storylines actually tied together rather seamlessly. It's a sci-fi, horror movie and the material was handled pretty straight forward. Well except for the ventriloquist scene, it was a pretty good movie.
Yes the ending was not resolved, but how could it be? The humanoids attacked, they killed a bunch of people and went back into the sea. So they weren't able to kill them all off. There were a lot of humanoids. Also I loved the ending with Peggy's "delivery", very well done.
