When this movie first came out, I could swear there were plenty of scenes with Heineken beer conspicously present in them. I even remember a small group of us drinking Heineken for a while just because we saw it in this movie. Now I see on the DVD just one scene where Vic Morrow is holding a Heineken bottle covering the label with his fingers. Did they do some editing out? Anyone?
Ha, ha, ha!!! I noticed the conspicuous display of cases of Olympia Beer at the movie's beginning in the dock wharf area. We know that corporations often paid big $$$ to studios for displaying their products in the movie but I don't know if Olympia Beer did so in this movie.
So ironic...Olympia Beer was one of more widespread and well-known of the American beer brands in its day. It catered to the working class and lower middle-class men and could be found in virtually every bar and tavern across the USA. But in spite of that ubiquity, Olympia Beer disappeared. The story I heard is that Olympia Beer hired some hot shot scientist who swore he could come up with a different beer formula that was more economical for the brewery and still good-tasting. The result was not just failure but catastrophe. Olympia Beer faded fast.
Don't you guys remember the past other famous American beer brands no longer around?
RAINIER BEER PABST BLUE RIBBON (I think might still be around but much smaller today) I can't remember but this one but the commercials always showed a cartoon bear and the background song, "From the sky blue clear waters..." SCHLITZ
That list along with the fact they were such big advertisers they even had an ad on Evel Knievel's parachute makes me think someone got paid for product placement here....
