Similarities to 1900

Hot off their seventies Oscar victories, both Cimino and Bertolucci just said "screw it, I'm an unstoppable god, let's go for it" and crafted these immense historical epics that could never be made even five years later... both contain moments of beauty and horror, but at the end of the day I find 1900 goes even further in its depiction of atrocities. I treasure both Heaven's Gate and 1900... gorgeous, sweeping, personal pieces that audiences did not connect with (though curiously HG received far more bile). Long live the auteurs of the seventies.

Yes, as I watched Heaven's Gate I also found similarities with Novecento.

I agree.99% of what Hollywood puts out today is commercial trash. Long live the auteurs of the seventies.
