CRITERION POLICY ON NOT SUBTITLING DIALOGUE IS A FRAUD

Criterion says that Cimino says that he did not intend for the non English language dialogue , Serbio-Croat, German, Polish etc to be subtitled. But CRITERION has made major changes to the sound and image look so purity is not their concern. Bottom line is that the strongest lines of dialogue in HEAVEN'S GATE are not in English why not subtitle content that adds greater dramatic power to the film ?

You've got me real curious: examples of the major changes to the sound and image look?

(The shorter version was the only one available for a long time. And even the longer version suffered from some distinctly inferior printing. So a proper "restoration" could look quite different legitimately, depending on what's considered the "base". Hence my curiosity to know in more detail what major changes are being referred to.)
