Ya, kinda what I felt, a noisy bunch of junk. I am not your typical movie watcher, instead I play PC games and have TCM on to my right. Normally, something from the movie catches my attention and I start watching the movie; Sometimes for hours.

This movie did absolutely nothing for me, in fact it was so irritating sound wise, I had to look it on IMDB and read the reviews. There is a lot a shooting, a rape seance and more shooting... I could not understand what was going on. Normally, I play PC games and or fall asleep and I can tell what is going on in a movie, not so with this flick.

My 2cents , save your 2 cents.

Edit: When I did look at the TV, I did notice that seem to have similar back drop mountain scenes as depicted in "Shane"... Great cinematography I have to say.

Yes, this movie, as well as every movie, is SUPPOSED to be good; no one sets out to make a bad movie on purpose.

The question is: Is this movie actually good? I just watched it for the first time, today. It's definitely too long. The Harvard scene is irrelevant to the story and should have been cut. Nearly all the other scenes are at least one-third too long. There is a breath-taking scope to it that I find compelling, but, overall, it's too excessive.

Opinions of Heaven's Gate vary greatly. It was panned by critics and largely ignored by moviegoers when it debuted in 1980. The film was pulled from theatres after one week, re-edited, and re-released as a shorter version months later. Heaven's Gate lost tens of millions of dollars and became infamous as the biggest box office bomb at the time, although its record has since been surpassed by other films.

Heaven's Gate started to receive more positive reactions after the longer version was aired on cable television and released on home video. Over time, the movie's reputation has improved, with some now considering it a masterpiece. In a 2015 BBC Culture poll of 62 film critics from around the world, Heaven's Gate placed 98th on a top 100 list of the greatest American films, ahead of Ace in the Hole and 12 Years a Slave and just behind Gone With the Wind.
