Its 2014, and this is still....
thee worst movie I have ever seen. Sorry.
shareSteven soderbergh's cut is actually quite good.
Raging Bull = Best movie
I'll give a 1/2 hour, thanks.
Anybody interested can watch the edit here.

I disagree with you
I even enjoyed the cut version when it first came out
the long version is even better
You don't have to stand tall, but you have to stand up!
I have no idea how anyone can have that opinion. Worst movie... EVER? Jesus. No sense.
shareWell it was until I saw The Happening. Still the worst Western ever made. You
happy now? Gheez.
It's just that there are so many HORRIBLE movies out there. This, even if you don't like it, is at least something that someone put EFFORT into. Someone had a vision for it. Some are just absolute trash, and I feel it's insulting to put this down with those movies.
shareMichael Cimino directed this piece of crap. I'm insulted that you're insulted
over this ridiculous piece of crap. Its not Plan 9, but its big $$$ crap. Now
shaddup before I make you cry.
I agree. Worst movie and what a waste of $40 million.
So he spends so much time and money composing every shot in the
beautiful scenery and then he uses a brown/yellow filter for the whole film which washes out what should have been colorful scenery. Why would he shoot the
entire film in that filter? It's not California or Arizona desert.
Even if he had to use brown/yellow filter, Sergio Leone and other Western movie's have shot that brown/yellow tinged much better. Great cinematography and composition in Once Upon the time in the West and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid for a fraction of this movie's budget. And that movie was interesting even though it was long. Even the cinematography is overrated. You give that much time to compose shots and plenty of money and artistic freedom, many cinematographers would have done a far better job. John Toll (The Thin Red Line) or Conrad L. Hall (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Road to Perdition) have done a far better job.
I've watched other slow, long art movies like The Thin Red Line or Once Upon a time in America. But they were interesting movies despite the pace and length. This movie has no interesting cast/acting and no interesting dialogue to remember. Worthless.
Here is a quote from Roger Ebert's review of this film when it released. And these lines are specifically about the Cinematography and the Brownish Yellow filter. I seriously thought something was wrong in the quality of broadcast in MGM HD or settings in my HD TV. But now I know.
"It is so smoky, so dusty, so foggy, so unfocused and so brownish yellow that you want to try Windex on the screen. A director is in deep trouble when we do not even enjoy the primary act of looking at his picture." - Roger Ebert on Heaven't Gate.
Having seen it recently on ACM (216 min.) it is truly awful. Besides the direction the acting is really terrible, from everyone involved. Cimino is the main culprit but also the producers are to blame, having agreed to his every demand and whim. He should have been taken off and replaced by Norman Jewison (as was the plan).
shareWas Jewison the one that turned down the offer?
shareNot a fan. I think the recent BBC Poll which had this ranked at #9 was a joke. Having said that, it's not even in the worse hundred films I've seen. But i will never watch this again. Tge Soderberg cut possibly, but not the tedious 3+hour cuts.
shareI think we can safely ignore your opinion since you rated 1/10...
Cross of Iron
Schindler's List
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
City of God
Ran
...and who knows what else.

As for Heaven's Gate, it's rather solid western epic with great cast... I watched the 216 minute version on one go. Rated it 7/10. Imo the cast and sets with realistic feel were its biggest strength.
LOL Cross of Iron is the worst WWII movie ever made, its laughable. Shindler's List is nothing but pure propaganda, and you bought it. Not even going to talk about that silly cartoon Crouching Tiger.
In any event, Heaven's Gate for the grand epic it was intended to be stands above all other in its genre as a complete miss and nothing but a monument to Cimino's ego. If you can sit through 216 minutes of this *beep* then you must not have much else to do, and know little about Westerns. I'm not going to insult you any further, its obvious you don't know what the hell you're talking about, but thanks for researching my page rookie. LOL
Clearly you don't understand cinema at all... and have completely wrong attitude towards it. But keep on trolling by all means...
shareMy family has been in the theater business since before the Depression you twit. This movie sucks, and most people share that same opinion. Its only you aggrieved pseudo-intellectuals that think there's any value in this piece of *beep*

Awwww, did somebody get his wittle feewings hurt Royce? LOL
I just finished downloading this piece of crap, and when I have 3 hours and 37 minutes to kill I'll get back to you with a more detailed analysis of why this movie, that killed UA, sucks so bad.
when I have 3 hours and 37 minutes to kill
Yes, the 3 minutes I've spent over the last 2 years discussing this absurd movie on IMDB has really cut into my free time. Bozo.
shareFor the most part, your taste in classic films is excellent. But I have to call into question how anybody in their right mind could consider the new Vacation, San Andreas, or especially Hot Pursuit as superior to the following films:
Blade Runner. Ghenghy rated this 4.
2001: A Space Odyssey. Ghenghy rated this 4.
The Shawshank Redemption. Ghenghy rated this 2.
Sunset Boulevard. Ghenghy rated this 4.
The Shining. Ghenghy rated this 4.
Cabaret. Ghenghy rated this 2.
Yet, you rated them higher. None of these films are better than the films listed above, and it's not even close.
Hot Pursuit. Ghenghy rated this 5.
Vacation (2015). Ghenghy rated this 7.
San Andreas. Ghenghy rated this 8.
We're the Millers. Ghenghy rated this 5.
Sunset Boulevard a 2? Come on, man. You're entitled to your opinion, of course, so if you don't like it, you don't like it. But that's a bit much.
Never for the sake of peace and quiet deny your convictions-Dag Hammarskjold
I agree. It was so bad I was actually offended but then somehow I found myself laughing at the suicide at the end. what's almost as bizarre as this movie is the recent revisionist history about it. It seems like certain corners of the internet are now feigning intellectual superiority by exaggerating the all to minor strengths of the movie.
