Rather dull
I wanted to like this movie but I'm afraid that wasn't possible after watching it. Yikes, what a bore. Very poor writing.

shareWhat set it up as boring is the opening, making it a kids story is boring in itself.
But rest is just too slow, there is material for maybe 30 minute short, but for a full movie here.
I thought it was great, myself. I loved the brooding and dark atmosphere, the work of the cast (especially Hal Holbrook as Father Malone), and the score was excellent as well (it really helped convey the mood of the film). The beginning with the old man and the kids was a great scene, and imo set the tone for the rest of the film :)
Sorry you didn't enjoy it, but hopefully you'll revisit it and change your mind some day.
"Speak of the Devil, and He shall appear."
I watched around 46 minutes of it, then turned it off out of boredom. For me, it was just sorta dull and it came off silly more than anything else whenever it tried to be scary.
shareIt's a slow burner, probably not suitable for sufferers of ADHD.
It's all a deep end.

This "film" is a joke and requires no further effort of criticism.
Level of over-ratedness: beyond the infinite universe out of 10.
Harry !!....your hands are freezing !!...

I am not a fan. I just happen to enjoy movies. Fans are embarrassing.
I didn't find this movie boring at all. It had a foreboding atmosphere that really set a great tone of dread. Funny I never caught this movie in 1980 when it came out I was 19 at the time, found the DVD recently at a thrift store and bought it just recently at 55. I guess I just like old school horror/ghost stories compared to present day movies.

why is he a nobody? Don't be a fanboy.
shareWell, I think it's great. I was completely caught up in the dark, foreboding atmosphere and also the characters were very fascinating. I was entertained the whole time. Sorry to hear you didn't have the same experience.
